* the lives of youngsters living in china 2020-2021
#experimental
This experimental short was inspired by Beats, Rhymes & Life of Amsterdam Youth Culture, directed by Pietro Coppolecchia. The piece explores how a generation of young people live and move through underground culture in Amsterdam. Its rapid editing pace — while still maintaining a sense of visual flow — sparked my interest in how fast-cutting could become a coherent visual language.
Over the next two years, I used a tape-based camcorder to film friends, young people I worked with, and chance encounters — each offering a glimpse into the rhythm and texture of youth life in 2020s China. Through tight editing and a deliberately fast rhythm, I wanted to experiment with how pacing itself could carry emotion and energy—capturing everyday fragments that speak to how this generation lives, moves, and expresses itself.
